When sewing in open fields compared to seedlings from a controlled nursery. This is due to change in temperature, soil quality, water deficit and pests.
More growth cycles
The use of seedlings shortens each growth cycle by 21-40 days, enabling the farmer to add 1-2 cycles per year.
Reduced expenses
When comparing sewing seeds with planting seedlings, seeds are more labour-intensive during plant infancy, and require manual irrigation, weed control, and thinning out plants.
Healthier plants
Seedlings from a controlled environment benefit from more developed root system, grow faster, more resilient and with higher yields at maturity.
ROI within one planting cycle
When compared to the multiple cycles required for capital-intensive inputs such as irrigation and agro-industrial equipment.
Pillar 01 - From Seeds to Seedlings
The Benefits of Seedlings Over Seeds
High quality plants, rather than seeds are key to healthy, high yielding food crops. However, establishing and operating modern nurseries requires many resources and a highly experienced team of professionals, making it a challenge in developing countries.
Seedling Production Facility
To facilitate the transition from sowing seeds to planting seedlings AGRICI is developing an advanced seedlings production facility:
Plot size
|
6,500 sqm
Built area
|
1,200 sqm
Net house
|
5,200 sqm with 11,500 seedling trays
Mechanized seeding machine
|
Capacity 780,000 seedlings p/day
Automatic irrigation boom
|
Movable irrigation/fertigation system
Capacity
|
29 million seedlings p/year in 9 cycles
Pillar 02 – Training & Farmer Success
Training Academy
Agriculture Certification Programs
Introduction to
best practices
Tailored to experienced farmers or inexperience youth.
Advanced agricultural education
Covering: irrigation, fertigation, harvesting, disease identification and treatment, pest control, safety and security in agriculture, etc.
Demonstration
training plots
Irrigated and equipped with advance solutions.
Training Academy Facility
Each training center will spread over 10,000 sqm and aim to serve 500 farmers. The training centers are being built around 4 pillars:
Classroom and training plot
Theoretical and practical courses in advanced agricultural practice.
Store for agriculture inputs and ordering of AGRICI’s plants
In partnership with 3rd party or consignment model.
Financial partner office
Office for AGRICI financial partner to meet and qualify BOOST members for WC financing.
Farmers and buyers meeting spac
AGRICI’s sale platform space for farmers to coordinate meetings with buyers.
Farmer-Success Programs
‘Farmer-Success Program - led by AGRICI’s Agronomists
The program aims to ensure that BOOST members are successfully planting seedlings, implementing best practices, and tackling challenges.
Regional guides will conduct regular field visits to provide guidance and assist in identifying and preventing issues that may arise.
Farmers will have access to agronomists with whom they can consult for early discovery of diseases and treatment.
A record of a farmer’s history and work will be collected. This will include data such as: plot size, yield, vegetable variety, number of cycles with AGRICI’s BOOST program, challenges etc.
Agronomists are also responsible for securing repeat purchases and generating new leads and sales.
Guarantee structure
Credit Rating Database
AGRICI will establish a database of its work with farmers. This database will serve to generate a credit score that will allow the bank to loan funds to the farmers. Funds will always be transferred to AGRICI, who in return will provide the inputs to the farmers.
Store for agriculture inputs and ordering of AGRICI’s plants
As part of the program, cooperatives will receive a commission on sales to its members. The cooperative’s commission will form an additional guarantee in case of default by its members.
Financial partner office
Between farmers of the same cooperative who are part of the boost program.
Farmers and buyers meeting spac
We are currently in discussion with the government and development banks to provide a financial guarantee, as security, to the financial partner providing the working capital to farmers.
Pillar 03 - Finance
Access to Working Capital
Subsidies and Grants
Offer inputs at subsidized prices via grants and farmers’ support programs financed through partnerships with financial institutions and NGOs.
Facilitating Loans
AGRICI’s framework will facilitate the structuring of loans, via banks and financial institutions, suited to the needs of BOOST program members (family farms), in terms of maturity, repayments, interest rates, and guarantees.
Delivering the Three Pillar Solution
Benefits of AGRICI’s BOOST Membership Program:
Bank funding
Access to working capital at favourable terms.
Sales platform
Access to our online platform, providing the farmer with data regarding market demand, rates and the ability to connect with potential buyers.
Order plants
Order quality plants, rather than seeds. (A key factor to increasing annual produce).
Training and knowledge transfer
Practical agricultural training programs and a Farmer Success Program to take place in a training academy and on the farm, aimed at improving yields.
Order inputs
With each plant delivery farmers can order inputs, such as fertilizer and tools, supplied directly to the field or training academy.
